SEBI now has an official WhatsApp channel. The Securities and Exchange Board of India announced it on 5 October 2026 and said the SEBI WhatsApp channel can be reached through 1800 22 7575 and will carry a verified blue tick, to help users identify the authentic account.
The announcement came in SEBI press release No. 61/2026, issued from Mumbai as SEBI launched an investor awareness campaign at Panjab University, Chandigarh. SEBI says the channel will provide “investor awareness information and resources” through a widely used platform. The release does not describe it as a route for complaints or for checking individual advisers or brokers.
Why the blue tick matters
SEBI has been adding ways to check what claims to come from it. On 1 October it began asking for a document’s subject before its document verification system confirms a SEBI letter or notice. A published number and a verified badge give investors a similar check for messages that arrive on WhatsApp: an account without the blue tick, or one reached through a different number, is not the one SEBI announced. Calls and video calls from people posing as officials are a separate fraud pattern, covered in our guide to the digital arrest scam.
“Samajh Se Investing Simple” and World Investor Week
The channel was one of several announcements under Project Jagrook, SEBI’s financial literacy and anti-fraud programme run with the stock exchanges (BSE, NSE, MCX), the depositories (CDSL and NSDL), AMFI and the National Institute of Securities Markets. Last week SEBI also told brokers to show Project Jagrook messages on their websites and apps.
The new campaign, “Samajh Se Investing Simple”, is also India’s theme for World Investor Week 2026, the tenth edition of the week organised under IOSCO, the international body of securities regulators. SEBI says it runs in India from 5 to 11 October. The campaign asks investors to understand products and their risks and to verify the authenticity of investment platforms and payment requests before acting.
MUST: mentors on campus
SEBI also launched MUST, short for Mentoring of University/College Students by Trainers. Faculty, staff or senior students nominated by their institutions will be trained and certified by SEBI, its market partners and NISM as “Partner Trainers”, who then teach basic financial literacy, informed investing and fraud prevention on their own campuses. SEBI says it is working with the Association of Indian Universities to spread the scheme and Project Jagrook across institutions. A student leaflet compares investing to a trek.
The same event marked the opening of SEBI’s local office in Chandigarh.
