Fashion brands have been making their support for same-sex love known for a few years now, from J.Crew casting one of its designers and his boyfriend in a 2011 catalogue and Gap giving a shot of a handsome couple billboard real estate in 2012. Plus, Jeremiah Brent and Nate Berkus made their own amazing appearance in Banana Republic’s campaign last February. But it’s still good to see more retailers getting on board with marketing to the LGBTQ community — and, ya know, getting a little closer to representing the diversity of this world of ours in its imagery.
Tiffany & Co is the latest to do so, making its first foray into featuring same-sex couples in its advertising with its new engagement campaign. A rep for the jeweler didn’t release the guys’ names because despite being extremely attractive, they are not professional models. But they are a real-life New York couple! Which, aw.
From the professional modeling world, Andreea Diaconu, Joséphine Le Tutour, Luca Gadjus and Cora Emmanuel also make appearances. Everyone is incredibly well-dressed and good-looking, busy doing things like hanging out on the steps of their brownstones and joyfully walking through the rain. Because a little downpour doesn’t matter when you’re in love — even if you’re wearing a white shirt.
With any luck, we’ll get to the point where we don’t feel compelled to call brands out on showing the complete spectrum of human love in their ads because it will be a normalized part of marketing. But until then: well done, Tiffany.
