Saavn’s Latest Artist-in-Residence Papon Releases New Album ‘The Story Now’ Exclusively on Saavn
Papon announces the launch of his latest album at an unveiling event presented by Saavn
Accomplished singer-songwriter Papon unveiled last night his latest album The Story Now, during an outdoor, launch event. This announcement comes just weeks after Papon joined Saavn as the newest member of the platform’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program – an in-house program designed exclusively for handpicked, breakthrough artists. The non-filmmusic album has been broken down into multiple Extended Plays (EPs), consisting of four songs each and will be released exclusively on Saavn over the course of the year.
Papon’s soulful style, rooted in tradition and recognized for seamlessly blending sounds of Assamese folk music with newage beats and bass lines, kept the audience captivated throughout the evening. Local music enthusiasts and celebrated vocalists including Vishaal Dadlani, Shilpa Rao, Ehsaan-Loy, Richa Sharma, Anu Malik, Hard Kaur, Bally Sagoo, Shubha Mudgal and Shreya Ghosal, among others, attended the event.
According to Papon, the album brings together an eclectic mix of various influences, “There are lots of different styles and genres so I don’t know if you can classify it easily. There’s Thumri, reggae-rock influences, and it’s not as heavily produced. It has a nice easy and organic vibe,” says the singer.
“Papon is an icon in the Indian music scene. What we heard and saw last night was nothing short of magic. We trust that his unique ability to transcend traditional music genres will resonate with fans across the world” says Gaurav Wadhwa, VP, Entertainment and Original Content, Saavn. “We’re continuing to make AiR a creative space for India’s
most innovative artists by giving them freedom to do what they do best. At the same time supporting them with the distribution of their music via our user base”
