The All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations organised today a 1 day National Conference at Mavlankar Hall, Constitution Club, Delhi which was attended by people from all over the country. The main objective of the Conference is to create a nationwide movement for awareness about rights of SC/STs and to formally mark the launch of the awareness campaign. Street plays and rallies will be organised in 410 districts in the country and memoranda will be circulated throughout the country. The national awareness campaign will be conducted by at least 5 workers in each tehsil. Their main purpose will be to spread awareness about the views of Dr. Ambedkar throughout the country. There should be an agitation wherever there is an atrocity. The attendees at the Conference have been asked to go back home and run the awareness campaign till 26th November. The social agitation must become so strong that pressure is created on all political parties to create a law for reservation in promotion and reservation in the private sector. Recently, Indian Railways has released an O.M. dated 10th August 2010. This is a policy decision and cannot be taken by Railways without consent of the Department of Personnel and Training. There are around 3 lac SC/ST employees in Indian Railways, but since employees are not able to unite and agitate, that department is facing the maximum threat against reservation. The main demands of the Confederation are to end the contract system, filling up of backlog vacancies through Special Recruitment Drives, reservation in promotion for all SC/ST employees at all levels, from clerks to class 1 officers.
While addressing the Conference, National Chairman of the Confederation Dr. Udit Raj said that until Dalits become strong, the country cannot become strong. A huge rally is being organised by the Confederation on 28th November 2016 at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi where the main theme will be reservation in the private sector. Nobody who tries to snatch the rights of reservation will be allowed to go unanswered, whichever party they may belong to. Dr. Udit Raj also said that if reservation is to be given on economic criteria, then the country’s wealth and land should first be equally divided. Dr. Udit Raj also said that continuing atrocities against Dalits are not due to failure of governance, but due to our country’s caste system.
