New Delhi, Oct 17-–The President, Mr Ram Nath Kovind, will inaugurate the International Gita Mahotsav at Kurukshetra on November 25, 2017. He will also participate in Gita Yajna and Gita Poojan ceremonies at Brahma Sarovar. The Mahotsav which will conclude on December 3, 2017, will have Mauritius as a partner country and Uttar Pradesh as a partner state.
Disclosing this at a press conference in here today, the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, said the President would also inaugurate the International Seminar on Gita on Kurukshetra University campus the same day. About 25-30 lakh people are likely to participate in the Mahotsav this year as against the arrival of 20 lakh last year. Replying to a question, he said that people from 35 countries participated in Gita Mahotsav last year at Kurukshetra and this year we are expecting more than these.
The valedictory session of the three-day seminar would be held at Brahma Sarovar as ‘Sant Sammelan’ on November 27 in which many renowned saints and seers from all over the world would participate. The gracious presence of saints and seers in Kurukshetra on this occasion would be a befitting tribute to the spiritual text of Gita.
Mr Manohar Lal said this year the state government had selected Mauritius as a partner country, and Uttar Pradesh as a partner state for the festival. This would definitely enhance the dimensions of the festival. Participation by many countries in the craft fair and cultural activities would lend an added attraction to the festival.
With a view to spreading the eternal message of Gita to the world, Vaishvik Path of Bhagvad Gita would be held at Brahma Sarovar and Jyotisar, the birthplace of Bhagvad Gita, on November 30, from 12 noon to 12.15 pm. After global chanting, Gita Shobha Yatra, a huge procession of tableaux, would pass through the streets and roads of Kurukshetra which will be decked up for the event and illuminated. Maha Arti will be held at Brahma Sarovar daily during the festival days. A light and sound show with 3D mapping at Brahma Sarovar will give grand dimension to the festival.
The Chief Minister said like last year, Gita Shloka Recital, Gita Quiz Competition and other educational programmes would also be organised for the school students. The rendering of Astadash Shloki Gita by 11,000 school students at Brahma Sarovar on the occasion of the festival would be one of the major events of the festival. The grand Maha Arati and Deepdaan ceremonies on the day of Gita Jayanti would be organised at Brahma Sarovar on November 30.
For acquainting and apprising the people of India and the world, especially the youth, with the great heritage of Mahabharata and Gita, the district administration Kurukshetra and Kurukshetra Development Board started online Quiz on Gita on October 2 which would continue up to November 18, 2017.
In a first, the International Gita Mahotsav will witness two coffee table books titled ‘Incredible Kurukshetra’ in English and ‘Atulya Kurukshetra’ in Hindi, which are being published.
The festival will also feature a grand craft mela and Saras mela on the banks of Brahma Sarovar in Kuruksehtra in which artists and artisans from India and abroad would participate. Besides exhibitions by different cultural, spiritual, educational and social organizations at Brahma Sarover, rangoli, painting and photography competitions, ‘Book fair on Gita’ (Gita Pustak Mela), exhibitions showcasing the development and progress of Haryana, and a marathon race will be the star attractions for the visitors, the Chief Minister said .
Grand theatrical performances by renowned artists from India and abroad from November 25 to 30, 2017 will prove to be a major attraction at the festival. On November 30, famous dancer and actress Hema Malini will perform ‘Radha Raas Bihari’, the world renowned dance ballet, at the main stage of the cultural programme near Sadachar Sthal. Such one-day programme on Gita Jayanti would also be held in Karnal.
Congratulating the Haryana Government for organizing the Gita Mahotsav at international level for second time, Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj said that Gita helps the citizens in becoming smart and civilized. When a citizen comes to know about his duties through the sholakas of Bhagvad Gita, he would discharge them in a rightful way and the entire environment will become peaceful.
On this occasion, Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal and Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj released CDs of Song of Celestial Gita, Global Chanting of Gita Shalokas and incredible Kurukshetra, 18 paintings on essence of Gita and on Yoga and Gita and Coffee table books of Gita Mahotsav in both English and Hindi languages.

Dhankar, Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, Industries Minister, Mr Vipul Goyal, MLAs Mr Subhash Sudha, Mrs Latika Sharma, Dr Kamal Gupta, Mr Randhir Kapriwas, Sah Sanghchalak Mr Pawan Jindal, Chief Secretary Mr D.S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr Rajesh Khullar, Media Advisor Mr Amit Arya, Additional Chief Secretary and Nodal Officer International Gita Mahotsav, Dr K.K. Khandelwal and other senior officers were also present on this occasion.

The exhibition on Gita Mahotsav is also being organized in the premises of Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi which would be continued for a month’s period.
