NEW DELHI, Feb 7—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken today met the Police Commissioner along with the family members of Shri Vinod Mehra, a Seva Dal worker, who was shot dead in an apparent case of road rage, at a flyover in North West Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy on Tuesday morning, and sought immediate action in the case. Shri Maken said it was indeed very saddening that Shri Mehra was shot dead in front of his young son, and requested the Police Commissioner not to reveal the identity of the young boy and also provide him with police protection, as he was the only witness to the crime. Shri Maken also requested the Police Commissioner not to call the young boy to the police station as he is under fear after his father was shot dead before his eyes.
Addressing reporters after meeting Police Commissioner Shri Amulya Patnayak at the Police Headquarters at ITO on Wednesday noon, Shri Maken said that the Police Commissioner has promised prompt action in the murder case, and the culprits would be arrested soon. Besides Shri Ajay Maken, others who met the Police Commissioner alongwith Shri Maken were Dr A.K.Walia, father of Vinod Mehra Shri Mangat Ram, Mehra’s brother Pramod and his son, Delhi Seva Dal chief Dineshwar Tyagi, All India Seva Dal organizer Akshay Jaiswal, senior leader Shri Chattar Singh, district president Shri Sunil Vohra and chief media co-ordinator Mehndi Majid.
Shri Maken said there seemed to be no political angle to the murder as it was apparently a case of road rage related to overtaking, but the police should probe all the angles in the case, and bring the criminals to the book. Shri Maken said that road rage has become a major threat on Delhi roads and if people are allowed to openly carry revolvers and pistols in their hands to take law into their own hands, then where is Delhi headed to?
Shri Maken said that the Congress did not want to make it a political issue and expected the police to make an impartial enquiry to bring the culprits to book at the earliest. He said that he has brought to the notice of the police commissioner the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, threatening the life of the people. Shri Maken said that the Congress party will do whatever needed to be done in the case.
