80 brave-hearts of CRPF, of which 8 are posthumous, were decorated with PMG
today on the occasion of CRPF Valour Day. Sh. Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Home
Minister and Sh. Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State for
Home presented gallantry medals to the awardees. Sh. Dineshwar Sharma,
Director, IB, Sh. Prakash Mishra, DG, CRPF and Sh. Durga Prasad, Special DG,
CRPF were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Sh. Rajnath Singh said that CRPF officers and men
have shown valour and gallantry time and again. The incident of Sardar Post is
one of them. He praised CRPF for carrying out civic action programmes and
helping out local and poor people in far-flung areas, where it is deployed. The
Home Minister assured all help to solve the problems faced by the Central Armed
Welcoming the Chief Guest Sh. Prakash Mishra, DG, CRPF said that Gallantry is
the tradition of CRPF and service to the nation is its Motto. He paid homage to
the martyrs of CRPF, who made the force proud. Sh. Durga Prasad, Special DG,
CRPF presented vote of thanks.
Earlier, Sh. Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries garlanded the urn containing holy
soil of Sardar Post. DG, CRPF presented mementos to Hon’ble Home Minister and
Hon’ble Minister of State for Home. A short film on the valour of CRPF was also
shown on this occasion.
A small contingent of 2nd Bn CRPF repulsed the 3,500 men strong Pakistani
Brigade attack on 9th April, 1965 at Sardar Post in Gujarat, in which 34 Pakistani
soldiers were killed and 4 were captured alive. In the battle six valiant CRPF men
laid down their lives at the altar of duty. The day is being observed as Valour
Day in the Force every year.
